This is a sponsored post written by me on behalf of Gro-ables Project for IZEA. All opinions are 100% mine.

Hey guys I am here today to show you how we planted a little garden without having an actual garden.  We moved into a new home a year ago and being brand new, it didn’t have a yard and we haven’t been able to put one in, yet.  We want a garden area but there are too many weeds so, instead, we are planting our garden in pots and setting them along our deck.  This will make them easy to get to and will keep them away from the hungry deer that come through our backyard.

We started out with a few different pots.  I wanted color so I picked several different pots from the dollar store.  Some are for plants and have good drainage but some are just cute plastic containers.  These work too.  Grow-ables  Next, you’ll need some potting mix, a drill to drill holes along the bottom of your containers for drainage, some rocks, and Miracle Gro Gro-ables.  I am sure you are asking, “what are Gro-ables?”  Gro-ables are my new favorite way to plant my garden.  They are little pods that come already to be put in the ground and contain everything needed to grow herbs and vegetables.  These are so perfect for my girls who always want to help but tend to make big messes.  All you do is simply take the Gro-able pod, peel the label off the top, and place in the ground (or, in our case, a pot with potting mix).  So easy!  Now, I started my pods a few weeks ago and I do NOT have a green thumb.  I simply took the labels off, started watering the pods, and set them in the window to receive some sunlight.  Here is what happened… Grow-ables …it started growing!!!  This has been a blast for my girls and for me.  We haven’t ever grown anything from a seed but Gro-ables has made it easy for us to start a garden and learn how to take care of plants.  My girls love checking the progress of each pod as the plants grow.  Each Gro-able pod comes with the food for the plant inside and the pod which is biodegradable.

Ok back to the actual project.  Sorry I got so excited that we could actually grow something.

To do what we did, start out by filling your pots with potting mix.  If you are using regular planting pots that have good drainage then you are ready to start planting your Gro-ables.  If you are using regular pots you will need to create some sort of drainage so your plant roots don’t get moldy.  To do this, turn your pot upside down and drill a few small holes for drainage.  The other thing you will need is a Now if you do this you will need some type of plastic dish or drip tray to place the pot in to catch the excess water and avoid leavig water stains on your deck.

garden One of my favorite features about the Gro-able pods is the little cheat sheet on the label.  It tell you how far apart to plant your plants and if you are doing them in pots it tells you what size of pot to use.  This is my kind of planting.  Thank you Gro-ables for doing all the work for me. Now that we have our garden all planted all we need to do is wait patiently and watch them grow!

Be sure to check out the Gro-ables Project We too believe that you can learn a lot from planting a garden.  There is  joy of growing your own herbs and veggies while giving your kids a hands on experience.

What do you plant in your garden?  If you have any tips or helpful things to do in our garden be sure to let me share in the comments below.
